Tilt your seats, lay back, relax and look up! We are at Kolkata's Birla Planetarium – the largest planetarium in Asia, and the extravaganza is about to begin! They will tell us about the stars and the planets and their journey. Get ready to be awed and mesmerised by the images and the stories of their secrets and wars, of Zodiac signs and stars.

The Birla Planetarium (Taramandal) operates on STARMASTER, an optical-mechanical projector that presents the most realistic star field. The Planetarium has an observatory equipped with a Celestron C-14 Telescope. The Planetarium, apart from academic courses, also offers discourses on myths concerning stars and planets.

It is the largest planetarium in Asia and the second largest planetarium in the world.
Its recent technical upgrade was delivered and installed by the German company Carl Zeiss AG.
Its architecture is inspired by the Sanchi Stupa
This first planetarium in India was set up by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 2nd July 1963.
